Sewer Backup Resources, Information, and Claim Forms

Posted: Monday, August 18, 2014

In the wake of recent heavy rainfall and flooding events, we wanted to remind MMRMA members that we have resources available for your use and benefit:

Sewer Backup: Claim Reduction Program

MMRMA’s Public Services Risk Control Advisory Committee recently revised its materials relating to PA 222. The Sewer Backup: Claim Reduction Program brochure contains information on identifying hazards and developing inspection/repair and complaint programs for your community’s DPS/DPW department. Click here to read this resource, or right-click and Save As to download to your computer.

Sample Resident Letters and Information

In addition, the DPS Risk Control Advisory Committee has also developed a sample resident letter as well as clean-up and disease prevention brochures to be given to residents if a sewer backup occurs. The sample resident letter and all other sample/model materials should be updated and individualized with the appropriate member contact information before being distributed to residents. Click here to access a PDF with these and other supplemental materials.

What Should Residents Do?

In order to remain in compliance with PA 222, residents should complete claim forms and return the forms directly to the member municipality; Residents should NOT submit claim forms in directly to MMRMA. Click here to access MMRMA’s Model Storm Water System Event - Notice of Claim form. Again, please update and individualize this form with your internal contact information prior to distributing it to residents.
