Recall May Affect Naloxone Kits Distributed to MMRMA Members at Conferences

Posted: Tuesday, November 15, 2016

Earlier this year, MMRMA provided 50 Naloxone First Responder Kits to member law enforcement associates at the February 2016 Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police conference in Grand Rapids and the April 2016 Upper Peninsula Law Enforcement conference in Gladstone.

We were recently notified by Mountainside Medical Equipment in Marcy, New York, that a manufacturer’s recall had been issued for this product.

The reason for the recall is the atomizer in the kit, not the actual naloxone medication. According to Mountainside Medical Equipment, the atomizer delivers the naloxone medication in a stream, rather than in a mist as it is supposed to. The product manufacturer is a company by the name of Teleflex Medical. Mountainside Medical Equipment furnished us with a list of recalled product code numbers and batch/lot numbers from the Teleflex Medical recall notification.

If you received one or more Naloxone kits from MMRMA, please take it out of service until you have a chance to determine if it is part of the recall.

Please contact Mike Berthā, Senior Risk Control Consultant, directly at 734-245-7764. He can help you check the product code numbers on your kit(s) against the list and, if applicable, provide instructions for returning a recalled product.

MMRMA apologizes for any inconvenience this recall may have caused.
