Risk Control Advisory Committee Information, Vacancies

Posted: Wednesday, September 23, 2020

Serving on MMRMA’s risk control advisory committees is an excellent way for member employees to share their knowledge and experience with the entire membership.

Risk control advisory committees assist management in identifying new and emerging loss exposures and developing practical risk control resources to help members reduce the frequency and severity of loss. These resources take various forms, including model policy guidelines and risk control bulletins.

The advisory committees also help identify training opportunities and identify projects and programs for potential grant funding through the Risk Avoidance Program (RAP), such as cyber security training, cyber risk assessments, body cameras for law enforcement, and more.

Criteria and Appointment Process

Committee members must be employees or officials of MMRMA member entities. They are appointed by the Board Chair to three-year terms and may be eligible for reappointment to additional terms.

Generally, risk control advisory committees meet at various locations around the state. In 2020, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, these meetings are taking place primarily virtually via Zoom. MMRMA’s Risk Control Consultants are assigned to serve as liaisons to the committees, which are organized according to the following functional areas:

  • Administrative (Liaison Stephen Tobler)
  • Corrections (Liaison Tom Cremonte)
  • Facilities Management (Liaison Terry Van Doren)
  • Fire and EMS (Liaison Phil Kamm)
  • Law Enforcement – Lower Peninsula (Liaison Mike Berthā)
  • Law Enforcement – Upper Peninsula (Liaison Kevin Denecke)
  • Parks & Recreation (Liaison Terry Van Doren)
  • Public Services (Liaison Terry Van Doren)
  • Technology and Cyber Security (Liaison Stephen Tobler)

Seats Are Now Available

Vacancies currently exist on several risk control advisory committees. Participation on a committee provides an excellent opportunity to meet with a network of peers while furthering one’s professional development and helping your fellow member public entities across Michigan.

Member employees interested in serving on a committee in their area of expertise are encouraged to submit a letter of interest and resume to MMRMA at the attention of the corresponding liaison listed above. Contact us at 734-513-0300 or the below email addresses to request additional information:
