Executive Director Announces MMRMA Staff Reorganization

Posted: Monday, February 22, 2016

I am most happy to announce the implementation of a reorganization plan for the MMRMA staff effective February 1, 2016.  While this plan considers the recent retirement of longstanding Director of Claims Michael Ellis, it also addresses broader organizational matters that impact all of our departments and functions.  Its purpose is also to more closely align our staff structure and allocation of human capital with MMRMA’s strategic plan, long-term goals, and program priorities.  It emphasizes the capabilities and expertise of our existing staff as well as providing for additional resources to position us for the future.

The first component of the reorganization plan is the promotion of Bryan Anderson from Finance Director to Managing Director.  Bryan will assume responsibility for our internal operations directing the activities of several key departments including finance, claims and legal services, and information technology.  He will also have a role in organization-wide planning and program budgeting.  In addition, Bryan will be involved in the development of long-term strategic plans for our future.  In the Finance Department, we will hire a Finance Manager, a new position, to handle many of the day-to-day tasks currently performed by Bryan.

The position of Director of Claims has been replaced with two senior managers who report to Managing Director Bryan Anderson:

First, Charlie Stevens is promoted to Claims Operations Manager and will have responsibility to oversee activities related to the operation of our Claims Department.  He will manage our organization-wide business processes regarding claims handling through the implementation, updating, and refinement of our claims handling procedures.  Charlie will also continue to play a crucial role in ensuring the use of state-of-the-art technology in the department.  He will work with other departments as the key contact concerning claims handling.  Charlie will manage the activities of our adjuster team for property and auto physical damage claims as well as the support staff functions.

Secondly, I am pleased to announce that Starr Kincaid will join our staff as Legal Services Manager.  This new position directs all claims litigation activities through the implementation, updating, and refinement of our Litigation Management Protocols.  The casualty adjusters handling litigated claims will work directly with the Legal Services Manager.  Prior to joining MMRMA, Starr was partner at the law firm of Lipson, Neilson, Cole, Seltzer & Garin for ten years.  Her civil litigation practice emphasized the defense of professional liability and employment practices claims.  Starr’s practice areas involved a variety of complex insurance coverage, property and casualty, and related claims.  Prior to her tenure at the Lipson firm, she worked at the Gregory & Reiter and Kitch law firms.  She is a graduate of Michigan State University – Detroit College of Law.  Starr plans to formally join our staff in late February.

Other notable changes in the Claims Department include:

  1. Tim Belanger’s title is changed from Senior Claims Attorney to Senior Counsel.  Tim will continue to manage a portfolio of high-profile, complex litigated claims.  However, he joins our administrative team, working directly with me on other legal and administrative matters.
  2. Lara DeLosh has been promoted to Claims Associate for property claims.  Working with Charlie Stevens and Soncia Salter, Lara will assist in the day-to-day administration of our property and auto physical damage claims.
  3. Our two long-term temporary support team members have been hired as MMRMA employees.  Chris Garza is Administrative Assistant for property claims.  Karen Felek is Administrative Assistant providing support to the casualty adjuster team.

In the Underwriting Department, Lauren Houston has been promoted from Receptionist to Administrative Assistant and will support our underwriting team with the management of information and other support functions related to the underwriting of renewing and potential new MMRMA members.  A new employee, Michelle Siskosky, has been hired as the Receptionist and started on February 8th.

In the Risk Management Department, we are actively recruiting a new Risk Control Consultant with specialized expertise in corrections, jail administration, and law enforcement.

In the Information Technology Department, Shari Galvin’s title is changed to Information Technology Support Specialist to be consistent with her current duties and responsibilities.

This reorganization is consistent with our succession planning efforts that recognizes the longevity of our staff and potential additional future retirements.  In succession planning, we look to acknowledge the expertise and talent of our existing staff members while adding qualified new staff from the outside as needed.  I am confident that this staff reorganization will ensure the continued delivery of superior services to our membership.

If you have any questions about this reorganization or the roles of MMRMA’s staff members, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at 734-245-7730 or
