State Pool Committee Vacancy: Deadline Extended

Posted: Tuesday, February 6, 2018

There is currently a vacancy on the State Pool Committee due to the appointment of Jeff Lawson, Cheboygan County, to MMRMA's Board of Directors. We have extended the deadline to Friday, April 6, 2018.

Board Chairman Michael Bosanac requests that letters of interest in filling the vacancy be mailed to him in care of MMRMA, 14001 Merriman, Livonia, MI 48154; Attention: Michael Rhyner. Letters may also be emailed to

Criteria for appointment include previous service to or participation with MMRMA, candidate’s length of service with the member entity he/she represents, and the member entity’s longevity with MMRMA. Letters of interest should address each of these considerations. Letters must be received no later than April 6, 2018.

The State Pool Committee consists of nine individuals appointed by the Board Chair. Committee members must be officers, as defined in the Joint Powers Agreement, of MMRMA State Pool member municipalities.

The State Pool Committee reviews and analyzes risk management issues and challenges facing the smaller communities and entities that make up the State Pool. Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Reviewing State Pool loss experience and making loss control recommendations to MMRMA’s Board of Directors and Executive Director.
  2. Reviewing the overall performance results of the State Pool and developing recommendations to the Board of Directors and Executive Director concerning special programs and services for smaller municipalities.
  3. Receiving reports from management regarding new members of the State Pool and any transfers from Individual to State Pool membership.

The State Pool Committee meets quarterly. One meeting is held in conjunction with the MMRMA Annual Meeting in August at the Grand Traverse Resort and another at the March Risk Management Workshop in Lansing. The two remaining meetings are held in May and November at dates and locations selected by the committee. MMRMA reimburses committee members for reasonable travel expenses plus a $90 per diem per meeting.
