Call for Letters of Interest: Investment Committee Vacancies

MMRMA was saddened to hear that Investment Committee member and Livingston County Administrator Ken Hinton passed away in October. His time and service to MMRMA was greatly appreciated, and he will be missed.

There are currently two vacancies on the MMRMA Investment Committee. The second vacancy is due to the departure of Jeff Dood, City of Grand Rapids, from the committee effective December 31, 2019.

Board Chair Michael Bosanac requests that letters of interest in filling the seats be mailed to him at MMRMA, 14001 Merriman, Livonia, MI 48154; Attention Michael Rhyner. Letters may also be e-mailed to  Criteria for appointment include previous service to or participation with MMRMA, relevant qualifications (finance and insurance experience), candidate’s length of service to the MMRMA entity he/she represents, and the member entity’s longevity with MMRMA. Letters or e-mails must be received no later than Friday, November 29, 2019. The Board hopes to fill the vacancies at its December 12, 2019 meeting.

Investment Committee members are appointed by the Board Chair with concurrence of the full Board.  Committee members must be officers of MMRMA member entities as defined in the Joint Powers Agreement.

The Investment Committee provides advice and assistance to the Board of Directors and Executive Director regarding MMRMA’s investment and financial functions.  Typical duties include:

  1. Assisting the Board and Executive Director in the development and implementation of Investment Guidelines and Policies and helping ensure compliance with such guidelines and policies.
  2. Assisting the Board and Executive Director in the selection of the Investment Consultant and assisting the Executive Director in the evaluation of the performance of the Investment Consultant.
  3. Assisting the Board and Executive Director in the selection of the Investment Managers and assisting the Executive Director in the evaluation of the performance of the Investment Managers.
  4. Assisting the Board and Executive Director in the implementation of the Net Asset Policy, including the annual recommended level of capital adequacy and identification of excess or deficient net assets.
  5. Reviewing and accepting financial statements.
  6. Reviewing and accepting investment reports.Other functions as requested by the Executive Director.

The committee meets on a quarterly basis.  MMRMA pays a per diem to committee members and also provides reimbursement for travel expenses.  If you have any questions concerning the committee opening or the appointment process, please contact Michael Rhyner at 734-513-0300 or
