Risk Control Advisory Committees Share Updates From Their Recent Meetings

Posted: Thursday, November 21, 2019

MMRMA's ten Risk Control Advisory Committees are comprised of member employees with expertise in their respective public entity services and departments. They meet regularly to discuss pertinent topics and develop resources for members. Here we share noteworthy items from some of the committees' recent meetings.

Public Services Risk Control Advisory Committee

  • Michigan is the only state in the country that does not have a statewide law governing septic tanks. That means the rules about how often or even if septic tanks have to be inspected vary by county.
  • The legalization of recreational marijuana can affect communities’ infrastructure. Growers' use of electricity has caused some communities in Colorado to upgrade their electrical infrastructure systems to accommodate the increased demands on the system. The same goes for increased water use and water run-off from chemicals used in the growing of the plants.

Technology and Cyber Security Risk Control Advisory Committee

Law Enforcement and Fire/EMS Risk Control Advisory Committees

  • The wellness of public safety first responders is an ongoing and important topic of discussion. These MMRMA committees are collaborating on a model protocol relating to Critical Incident Stress Management. Watch for it next year.
