OMA Handbook Updated to Reflect Change In Law

Posted: Thursday, March 14, 2013

The attached 2013 updates to MMRMA’s Open Meetings Act Handbook address a recent change in the law.

At the end of the 2012 legislative session, 2012 PA 528 was passed. This amended section 5 of the OMA (MCL 15.265), adding several new requirements to the notice provisions. In particular, the notice requirements have been changed with regard to special, irregular, and emergency notices, including requirements for online publishing of these notices.

To update your 2011 edition of MMRMA's Open Meetings Act Handbook, please print out the attached PDF (which contains the revised pages only) and replace the following:

  • Pages 6-9 will replace pages 6-9 of the 2011 edition.
  • Pages V-XII will replace pages V-XI of the appendix in the 2011 edition.

The PDF with these updates is also available on the Members Only area of our website under Risk Management Tools in the Manuals subfolder.

Please do not hesitate to contact the editors or MMRMA with any questions or concerns.
